feriatus

This is going to be my first major blog post since a few weeks ago. If you take a look at my calender of posts (available from the sidebar), you’ll see that my posts are usually clumped together. ;) It’s easy to interpret too. The gaps in between posts are usually very busy times during the school term. Clumps of posts mean that I am relatively free at that period of time and individual posts are written when I find an hour or so during my work to type something out.

Enough idle banter.

Looking at my blog stats it appears that I’m the only one visiting it.. Come on people, keep the hits coming in! :)

I wasn’t able to find a box today to put my k6-2 in, so I really wonder how I’ll be bringing it down for camp now.. Worse come to worse I’ll bring the parts down and find the box there and then.

Alot has been going on the budget front. I’ve finally settled on a 2.16GHz white MacBook, I’ll probably be getting it in a few days. See whether iShop got promo first. :P Also I’ve finalised details for my fileserver so all its waiting for now is for the parts to start coming in.

Even though the MacBook still retains the crappy GMA950, I think I can come to terms with it.. after all its supposed to be a portable notebook so too much can’t be expected from it (concentrate on the Core 2 Duo :D ). Also I read that Starcraft 2 is coming out soon, good times, good times.

Exams are over and I must say I’m pretty pleased with my results, overall I passed all subjects with 36 points total. Now the holidays stretch out before me, I’m sure it’ll be a productive one.

More to come.

gap

The only way I can describe the current situation is a gap. There’s not really any date to look forward too in the next few weeks. We’re nearing the middle of the second term (also the start of the second quarter). The last public holiday before the exams has passed. The only viable option left now is to pick up the baggage and trudge on towards the end of the term.

In other news, an unidentified idiot has been delibrately hiding my pencil box in hard to find places. I suppose he thinks its very funny, wait till I hide his pencil box. Oh well, I’ve found it so it doesn’t matter much now. I just need it to do work.

I’m continuing to save up for my server day by day and with a strict budget, I’m getting close to my target. (without CNY money help) The June dateline is no longer of importance though, it would not make much sense to rush since port 80 is blocked and I won’t be switching till later.

The second quarter has just started and I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for the rumoured MacBook revisions. I’m also looking at the Creative Inspire P380 as a basic fulfilment for my audio needs.

I rewatched A.I. again on channel 5 a few days back and finally got to see the ending. It was touching no doubt, but what haunted me was the fact that the robot boy, being completely self-concious was able to accept the fact that what he was experiencing was merely a simulation.. This also prompted me to relight the burning question that I have never been able to answer. That was, “What is the meaning of life?”. I have long accepted the geometric universe and Big Bang theory. But that only explains the existence of the universe, what about the area outside the universe? The boundaries of the universe? Is it just a giant box? Will we bump into a wall at the end of it? Or does the multiverse theory hold some water?

I’ll most likely never be able to answer these questions, but but this has thought me not to take life too seriously. After all, the socially accepted meaning of life is nothing more than a human construct.

A temporary carbon-based lifeform…

washen

It’s raining and its a cold morning. I sent my phone through the wash again yesterday, as expected it still works even though this is the third time its been dunked. It’s not the phone I’m worried about, looks like the SIM card is borked. Replacements are a PITA, like, $30 per piece. Anyway I’m seriously considering saving up to get a new phone. The one I have is a piece of crap (partly due to my fault ;) ).

Oh well, I’m also toying with the idea of delaying the building of my server till I migrate to SNBB seeing how *Hub blocks port 80 anyway and reverse proxying is just a hassle. Heh, so much to buy, so little money :D

In other news, a few disused and (in a rather sad state) abandoned hardware was found in the empty space near the red level toilet on Thursday. It seems everything valuable had already been looted and the only usable thing left was a HSF from a Acer Veriton 5100. Needless to say I pocketed it and its now residing in my K6-2. Compared to my old HSF, this one is bigger and has a faster fan. Its a rather small improvement, but an improvement nevertheless.

Hm, until I get my notebook (a MacBook hopefully), I can’t really make any concrete plans as to how I’ll be spending my money. Heh, time for my monthl civillised rant about why I think the MacBook line will be revised with better hardware.

Yeah so the main reason is because of the release of Leopard. With Leopard comes new and exciting apps and features and by looking at previews of Core Animation, I’m pretty sure the MacBook will need something with more horsepower than a GMA950. Preferably a GMA x3000 or the much-hyped about Radeon X2300. Now the only problem is when it will come out, I hope its in April or May or it won’t make it in time for the production of the HDay flash. In which case I’d have to settle for a PC-notebook. :(

I just notice my wishlist is gone for some strange reason so I’ll be creating another one probably when I have the time.

The exam timetable was circulated around on Friday, so I’ve got about four weeks of study time before it begins. Now I’ll be realistic, I’m not setting goals of topping the levels or anything. My main aim is to achieve results that warrant a ‘good’ (so around 70+?).

I’m currently making good progress in clearing the backlog of homework from my C Math books. It’s pretty rushed but its working, I’ll probably need to come back to revise Logarithms again when I have the time though. Next up is Coordinate Geometry. Also of concen is CL, which I’m rather weak at. So yeah, more practice needed dah?

My mailbox has been rather quiet so I’m wondering how Operation Augean Stable would be implemented. I’ll probably give cflee a buzz or something later.

*Public Warning System Test Chime is heard, another reminder of the beginning of April.. Sigh.*

The SLS price drop has cooled down, only minor lowering of prices now. Oh well, the longer I wait the cheaper they get. So yeah, no rush. :)

It’s interesting to note that my parents are already beginning holiday planning, ironic to some extent.

Also, check out ndoo’s blog for a ‘balancing ac’ remix. It’s cool and I’ve yet to try it out myself. He says its easy, the 45-degree angles of the chairs is almost surreal if you look at it long enough.

I’ll be back later today with more stuff.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own.
